Games + Actions (for a Quiet City)
Come and join GAMES + ACTIONS (FOR A QUIET CITY) this October as part of Art & About with three weekends of creative workshops and performances around the city.
Games + Actions (for a Quiet City) is a series of public performances featuring ambient masses of volunteers, performing a cascading symphony of identical, democratic instruments. And we want you to come be a part of it! This is an invitation to re-discover the city, through sound, space and social interaction.
Be part of a community that shares ideas and makes new sounds through simple everyday objects and patterns, culminating in the creation of immersive ‘surprise sound masses’ within three iconic Sydney locations: Mitchell Library, Hyde Park and Martin Place.
Super Critical Mass have created large-scale sound works across Australia and overseas. Each performance of Games + Actions (for a Quiet City) relies on community volunteers who have taken part in workshops with Super Critical Mass to deliver these arresting sonic situations.
Performance dates and locations:
17 & 18 October: Hyde Park South
24 & 25 October: the Mitchell Library, State Library of NSW
31 October & 1 November: Martin Place
Part of Art & About’s new year-long calendar of creativity, Games + Actions (for a Quiet City) reflects on the social and acoustic specificities of city spaces to create a finely tuned mosaic of sound fields.
Not keen on participating? Come down and listen to your city in a different way from 5pm on each of the performance dates.
