We Live Here
#WeLiveHere2017 is a community-led art project. The #WeLiveHere2017 team have collaborated with Waterloo residents to create a light project with the tenants of Matavai and Turanga towers.
Each resident has been offered a set of coloured lights for their window. The project transforms the towers into a beacon to the community, powered by the people themselves.
Together the residents hope to show the strength of the Waterloo community in lights. From 9 September until 1 October 2017 the towers will be illuminated from inside people’s homes. This project celebrates the people of Waterloo and shows the world “We live here” before their neighbourhood changes. The project aims to generate important discussions about the people affected by urban renewal projects: the lights are on, somebody’s home.
The #WeLiveHere2017 Team is made up of a small group of people made up of private and public housing residents who live in the Redfern and Waterloo area.
